Welcome...
Get ready for San Diego’s third annual Burning Man film festival. At this year’s festival, we will celebrate San Diego’s role in the Burning Man regional community. Whether it’s through the first San Diego C.O.R.E. project, or through YOUtopia (our local San Diego Decompression event), or the San Diego Burning Man Film Festival, San Diego is a thriving Burning Man regional community, and should be celebrated for bringing the essence of Burning Man to our local community, and for bringing the essence of San Diego to Burning Man’s regional network. San Diego's local Burner community doesn’t rest on its laurels. For example: plans are afoot to plan for a 2013 San Diego version of Figment, a public art project initially spearheaded by New York regionals on Governor’s Island in New York City.
If you are “Burner-curious,” come out to the San Diego Burning Man Film Festival for an introduction to the 10 Principles, the local Burner community, and what it’s really like to go to Burning Man, no matter what rumors you may have heard. We are also excited to present this festival for the very first time at a local Burner-run theater and circus venue, The Center for Amusing Arts and Technomania Circus, located on Imperial Avenue between 25th and 26th streets.
San Diego Burning Man Film Festival
The San Diego Burning Man Film Festival screens on Saturday, March 10th, 2012, at the Center for Amusing Arts and Technomania Circus's new Victory Theater Venue. The collection of shorts and feature length films about the annual arts festival in the Nevada desert will show from 11:00 AM through 11:00 PM, with an after party to follow from midnight on. Artisans and performance artists who have attended or been inspired by Burning Man will participate in both the festival and the after party.
The Film Festival will feature films made by members of the worldwide Burning Man community. These films show the art, the wacky costumes, the fun and challenges of living and playing at Burning Man. The film festival will also show how Burners take their shared values home with them at the end of the week long festival, supporting interactive art year round through the Black Rock Arts Foundation and helping others in need through Burners Without Borders and Black Rock Solar.
We are also pleased to be able to present a special sneak peak at films currently under review for inclusion in future Burning Man Film Festival presentations, including a theater premier of John “Halcyon” Styn’s documentary film “Pink Hearted”. This special sneak peak preview will happen at midnight at the after party at the venue.
